Rusty says:
"As of July 14, 2008, contrary to what you’ve heard, Rusty’s Hard Time Hollow is receiving all hikers (through hikers, section hikers, and hitch hikers). Donations are a must to keep the Hollow in running order. Please give all you can; you are supporting a trail mission.

Everyone is a purist”

If I can't go there, why bother printing it in ANY of the guide books? It seems kind of arrogant to continually change his mind. Trail legend or not, it seems unreliable.

Rusty called with updates for next year. He seems contrite about his open/not open flip-flops, and says the hollow is open "for good".

Also, there IS electricity and a phone at his place (sorry about outdated info in App Pages). It is a unique place to stay.

I took a hike to Rusty's yesterday to get a few photos to post. They are now posted.

The hike is almost worth it just to read all his signs slogans on the way in. You will get a good laugh from most of them. I posted a couple today.

When I arrived there wasn't anyone there so I just took a few photos and headed out. He uses the ceiling and walls of the back porch to post photos of hikers that have visited.

There was a sign above the door that said closed for the winter, but gave you directions on how to get inside if you needed to.

Being new at this I have not seen very many hostels, but this on seems unique to me. It is a shame that it is so far from the AT.
