Reroute scheduled for 1 July in the bigelow area

I spend the weekend checking out and mapping the reroute along the Appalachian Trail that is going to take place in the Bigelows along Flagstaff Lake this July. I have to say that I think this reroute will be one tremendous improvement and probably now be one of the best AT walks in Maine. I would probably rate this as good as if not better then sleeping at Pierce Pond Lean-to. The Appalachian Trail along with this new reroute will now skit Flagstaff Lake for almost one mile. I was not able to pinpoint where the four tent site location were going to be because they were not marked in any way yet but I got a rough idea. As I was leaving to walk out Friday night the loons started signing. This will be a nice area to spend the night falling asleep to the loons.
The reroute will start being working on to mid June and is scheduled to go into place at this time on 01 July 2009.

The reroute will add 0.5 mile to the AT between Bog Brook Road (NOBO mi. 2007.3) and Long Falls Dam Rd.
