This book is great. Put me down for the 2010 version please. But, since you are looking for suggestions, I would like the pages that have town maps to alos include the mileage number for the town (i.e. - where you get off the trail to hit the town). Find myself flipping back to the mileage pages all the time when looking at town maps.

Thanks for the great work.

I am trying to understand what you are saying but not understanding what you are saying.
Some towns like Franklin don't have the Trail going through it, but the map does tell you how far from the road, in this case US 64, that comes out at Winding Stair Gap.

The only thing I might understand is a mile number(approx.) so that when you look at the maps, you know about how far you have gone/have left?

My brain hurts!

I know. Explaining myself seems to be a full time job.

For example:

Franklin's on/off point is from mile 107.7 on the trail. I would like to see the mileage reference 107.7 somewhere on the map of the town.

Damascus...463.0. Put 463.0 as a reference point on the map of the town.

It's not a big deal if the map is on the same page as the NOBO/SOBO mileage numbers (like Franklin is in the 2009 edition). Map is on page 10, mileage on pg. 11. But it would be helpful on maps that are on difft pages (like Damascus in 2009 edition) Damascus map is on pg. 38. Mileage for Damascus and area around it is on page 41.

So.....put somewhere on Damascus map (maybe right by the population and coordinates info) the mileage reference 463.0. Then when I look at page 38, I know that Switchback Campground's on/off point is at 441.5, Shady Valley, TN's on/off is at 448.0, and Damascus is at 463.0, Capeche?

Thanks for the suggestion. Cross-references are helpful, but difficult to maintain. Mileage info is the last thing that we get, so it is a scramble to adjust all the mileage info and get the book to the printer at the end of the year.

The write-up for the town that is mapped *usually* is immediately following the map on the left side of the page. In your example, the Damascus write-up is on the next town page. The town write-up is always cross-references the mileage. Many times that text ends up right at the bottom of the map (see Hot Springs, Delaware Water Gap, Kent, Dalton, and others in the NOBO book).

I said "usually" because in a few places, the town info preceeds the map. Either way, the quickest way to move from the map to the "data" is to find the mileage by scanning the town info just below or above the map.
