View Full Version : Where I got lost on the AT
This thread will be to discuss where on the AT you ever went awry. This will be useful to us all because there is probably good reason for getting getting lost; poorly marked trail, or a fork where the more "straight ahead" route is NOT the AT.
Please be very specific about the location (give the mileage if you can look it up or make a good estimate. Any good information posted here MIGHT be used in the book.

If memory serves me correctly, I had to do a little searching to find the correct path back onto the northbound AT after walking out of Kent, CT on the road in 2003. I had walked into Kent the night before to re-supply and decided to share a room with some other hikers. On the way out of town back to the trail crossing I found some blazed on trees and started to walk into the woods, only to find that the blazes ended up tapering off. Walked back out to the road and went a bit further and saw what appeared to be a well travelled footpath and gave it a try. After crossing an open field I finally did find a blaze and headed north.
Might have just been me and/or by now, things might be marked better. I am also inclined to believe that if I had just crossed the road and continued on the day before rather than going into Kent the trail would have looked more straightforward once it crossed the road.
