Although Air China operates the nation's largest amount of outbound flights, analysts considered China Southern as the biggest beneficiary due to its huge overseas debt.

The Guangzhou-based carrier just welcomed its 400th plane on Sunday, making it the world's sixth-largest carrier by fleet size. It is quickly expanding its aircraft numbers, and plans to add 12 new aircrafts this year.

Yao Jun, an industrial analyst with China Merchants Securities, said that each percentage point that the yuan rises would boost China Southern shares by 0.044 yuan, Air China by 0.025 yuan, and China Eastern by 0.021 yuan.

Yao said China Southern, Air China and China Eastern will write off their overseas debts by around 352 million yuan, 306 million yuan and 237 million yuan respectively, for every percentage point that the Chinese currency strengthens against the US dollar.

"A more expensive yuan is good news for international flights' fuel costs, as well as take-off and landing fees, and the biggest gains would be our overseas debts," said Rao Xinyu, board secretary of Air China.

According to Rao, the appreciation of the yuan will help reduce the Beijing-based carrier's capital expenditure, which is expected to reach 15 billion yuan this year. Nearly 70 percent of the capital expenditure is used to purchase aircraft and equipment.

The three leading carriers registered an encouraging first-quarter report earlier. China Southern posted a net profit of 1.419 billion yuan, five times higher than that of last year.

HI THIS IS VICTOR - TRAIL NAME: Philippinewanderer. I have hiked the southern most part of the A.T. two times, one time as far north as Devil's Fork Gap.

Right now I am exercising and getting a little more physically prepared for my hike. I am retired and now living in the Cebu area of the Philippines.

I have decided to come back for Franklin's Hiker Bash and then shuttle to Devil's Fork Gap and then hike as far north as I may.

My first goal is to hike to Damascus, if everything is ok to there take a 0 day there and hike on to Harper's Ferry, then if everything is still ok hike onward to Katahdin.

Then take a bus back south and possibly hike over the southern portion I have previously hiked to have completed the entire trail in the same hiker season. That part remains to be seen.

We were... I returned early from my winter shakedown hike due to some complications that I will not discuss but will say it was nothing serious.

We were not able to hike the miles we wanted to hike but the goal was not mileage or distance. The goal was to test out our gear and mainly our sleeping gear.

The temperatures did not drop as low as we wanted them to. It only dropped the 32 degrees. We were a little disappointed but did discover that we were plenty warm enough in our hammocks.

Sorry there is not much to write here. Hopefully I will be able to do another colder weather hike before my thru hike.

I love the backpack I have not but it is just not large enough to hold the cold weather gear that I will be starting with. I should rephrase that a little. I can fit all my cold weather gear in my current backpack but it is a very tight fit. I do want to have to struggle every morning in the cold to try and squeeze everything in the pack. I am going to try to find a bigger pack that I like that will fit everything in it with ease. Then when I get rid of my cold weather gear I will send the pack home and get my other one.

I am also going to buy another pair of shorts, look for a camera case to attach to my shoulder strap. I am contemplating buy an extra pair of boots. They also commented that it was not easy to move around in. I found no problem reading and navigating at Trail Journals but then again I have been following hiker’s journals on that site for years now. I decided to start working on my own journal web site to accommodate my family and friends. I now have my site completed. The only thing that is keeping me from announcing my web site is me trying to decide on a style or design for the web site. If you are looking at it now on the date I typed this entry then the look may change a few times in the next couple of weeks until I find one I want to stick with.
